Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is an organizational development to successfully improve plant maintenance by providing significant tangible results, and transformation of the plant's environment and people. The goals of TPM simply conclude to Zero Breakdown, Zero Accident, and Zero Defect. At Epoxy Division, Aditya Birla Chemicals (Thailand), the implementation of TPM was initiated in 1999, inaugurated by Mr. S. Hirao, a TPM Consultant of Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM). General rules to TPM implementation includes eight pillars of activities, if strictly adhered to, can reduce the developmental stages. Although, the Company was able to achieve the TPM Excellence Award in 2002, it understands TPM is an ongoing initiative, and strict guidance through total employee participation is the roadmap to Zero Breakdown, Zero Accident, and Zero Defect.
